One of the most essential Chaitra Purnima stories, or Chaitra Purnima Vrat Katha, talks about Brihaspati or Lord Indra’s mentor. Brihaspati had once shifted his responsibilities to Indra, and Indra had failed at them, creating chaos. Upon Brihaspati’s return to his routine, he discovered that Indra had created much chaos and disruption. 

Scared of Brihaspati’s reaction, Indra begged forgiveness and asked how he could undo his sins. Brihaspati urged Indra to go on a pilgrimage. On the way to pilgrimage, Indra came across a Shivaling and prayed to Lord Shiva to relieve him of his sins. It is believed that Indra prayed to the Shivaling on the day of Chaitra Purnima. 

2. Lord Krishna’s Raas Leela on Chaitra Purnima 

There’s another story that states that Lord Krishna and his Gopis celebrated Raas Leela on the day of Chaitra Purnima. Lord Krishna and his Gopis danced the whole night using Krishna’s divine power or Yogmaya.
