Varuthini Ekadashi Vrat Katha
In ancient times, there was a king named Mandhata who ruled on the banks of the river Narmada. He was very generous and religious. One day, while he was doing meditation in the forest, a wild bear came from somewhere and started chewing the king’s leg. The king remained absorbed in his meditation as before. After a while, chewing on his feet, the bear dragged the king into a nearby forest.
The king was very frightened, but in accordance with the rules of religion, he prayed to Lord Vishnu without anger and violence and called upon Lord Vishnu with compassion. Hearing his call, Lord Vishnu appeared and killed the bear with the Chakra.
The king’s leg had already been eaten by the bear. This made the king very sad. Seeing them sad, Lord Vishnu said: O calf! Don’t grieve. You go to Mathura and observe the fast of Varuthini Ekadashi and worship my Varaha Avatar idol. Under its influence, you will have strong limbs again. What this bear has bitten you was the crime of your previous birth.
