Hinduism is one of the oldest and most famous religions. There are about 1.2 billion Hindus in the world. Hinduism has many stories and epics. These tales also have different versions. This is because many of these stories were passed down from generation by mouth and altered in many ways. One of these epics is Ramayana. Initially a great poet, Valmiki, wrote it around 300 BCE. After that, many other writers rewrote it. In the present day, there are 24,000 couplets in the epic. And this book now has seven parts to it. The moral of the story is the victory of good over evil. The story revolves around Lord Rama, his wife, Sita and his brother, Lakshman. First, they were sent into exile by their father, and later Sita was abducted by an evil King, Ravana. On this journey, Lord Rama meets Hanuman, who becomes his biggest devotee. InstaAstro brings information about Lord Hanuman and one of his most well-known stories.
Who is Lord Hanuman?
Lord Hanuman is a Hindu God who people worship across India. He has a crucial role in one of the greatest epics, Ramayan. There are many stories of his childhood which the elderly love and narrate to the younger generation in families. He is Lord Rama’s favourite companion. Story Behind Lord Hanuman Lifting a Mountain
We all have seen a picture of Lord Hanuman carrying mountain, right? But have you ever wondered what the reason behind it is? Well, the story behind this goes like this.
Lakshmana got a fatal wound during the war against Ravana and Hanuman fetched the Sanjivani. It is a life-restoring solid herb from the Dronagiri mountain, the Himalayas, which would be used to revive him. This is the story from where the image of Lord Hanuman lifting mountain comes.
Kalanemi and Lifting of Mountain
Ravana acknowledges that a troubled Rama would likely give up if Lakshmana dies. So, he sets the sorceress Kalanemi to block Hanuman. Kalanemi, in the disguise of a sage, tricks Hanuman. But Hanuman unveils his plot with the assistance of an apsara, whom he saves from her accursed form as a crocodile.
Ravana discovers that Sanjeevani Hanuman has killed Kalanemi. So, he calls Surya to rise before its designated time. The physician Sushena stated that Lakshmana would expire if untreated by daybreak.
Hanuman recognises the risk. However, becoming many times his average size, he confines himself to the Sun God to control the break of day. He then continues his hunt for the precious herb. Later, he finds himself unable to specify which herb Lakshman needs. Then he lifts the entire mountain and gets it to the battleground in Lanka. Sushena then administers the herb, and Lakshmana’s life is out of danger. Rama embraces Hanuman, declaring that he is as dear to him as his brother. Hanuman frees Surya from his grip and asks forgiveness, as the Sun God was also his Guru.
Why is Hanuman popular as the Langra Veer?
Hanuman’s another name is “langra veer”; langra in Hindi means limping, and veer means “brave”. The narrative behind this name of Hanuman (Langra) is as follows.
He was wounded when crossing the Ayodhya with the Dronagiri Parvat in his hands. As he was crossing over, Bharat, Rama’s younger brother, saw him and presumed that some Rakshasa was carrying this mountain to attack Ayodhya. Then Bharat shot him with an arrow bearing the name of Rama. The fact that this arrow had Rama’s initials and injured his leg is the reason Hanuman did not block it. While Bharat was lifting the mountain to save his brother Lakshmana, Hanuman dismounted and gave him a warm welcome. Bharat expressed regret and volunteered to shoot an arrow at Lanka so that Hanuman could ride and reach places quickly. Hanuman, however, declined the offer and continued on his journey with his damaged leg while choosing to fly alone.
