1. Apara Ekadashi Story

According to Hindu mythology, a famous religious King named Mahidwaj was very religious and always followed the path of spirituality. However, on the other side, his younger brother, Vajra Dhwaj, always had feelings of hate and jealousy towards him.

Because of this anger and hatred, Vajra Dhwaj murdered Mahidwaj and hid his body under a peepal tree. Due to his unnatural death, Mahidwaj was not able to attain peace and became a restless spirit, which used to haunt everyone.

One day, a sage passing by sensed the presence of the troubled spirit. Using his divine powers, the sage learned about Mahidwaj’s tragic fate and the reason behind his restless state. The sage decided to help Mahidwaj attain peace.

How did Mahidwaj attain peace?

He freed the spirit of Mahidwaj from the tree and led him towards liberation. Also, to ensure that Mahidwaj’s soul could find peace, the sage instructed him to observe a fast on Apara Ekadashi.

With the powerful impact of the Apara Ekadashi Vrat and the blessings of Lord Vishnu, Mahidwaj’s spirit was freed and attained peace. Since then, devotees have observed the Apara Ekadashi fast to do good karma and progress on their path to peace, inspired by the story of King Mahidwaj.
