Akshaya Tritiya 2022:
Akshaya Tritiya 2022 is here and it is an auspicious day in the Hindu culture. The day is considered optimistic for new beginnings, new business ventures, new construction, etc. It is a belief that starting new things on this day prevents obstacles on the way. It is the third day of the Shukla Paksha (bright lunar fortnight) in the month of Vaishakh.
This year, it will be on May 3. According to the Panchang, Tritiya tithi will begin on May 3 at 5.18 am and remain until May 47.32 am.

Why do devotees buy gold and silver on Akshaya Tritiya?
Things bought on this day stay with us forever. Also, purchasing metals like silver and gold and other valuable items welcome Goddess Lakshmi (goddess of wealth and prosperity) to their homes. Therefore, Hindu devotees seek the blessings of goddess Lakshmi on this day and offer new valuable metals to goddess Lakshmi.
As per Hindu epics, Lord Kuber, the God of wealth, ruled the land of ‘The golden city of Lanka once upon a time. However, his stepbrother Ravana seized the town from him and took over all the wealth from Kuber, banishing him from Lanka. Since then, Kuber has led a righteous life and performed penances that won him the prayers of Lord Brahma and Shiva.

Viswakarma, God’s architect, constructed a fabulous city for him named Alkapuri near Mount Kailash. According to Mahabharat, on the day of Akshaya Tritiya, Kuber was granted lordship as custodian of the wealth of heaven. So, buying gold on Akshaya Tritiya and worshipping Lord Kuber is a promising practice to bring prosperity to the household.
Another tale from Mahabharata mentions that once, Lord Krishna stayed with Pandavas in their exile. During his visit, Draupadi felt powerless as she could not treat a divine guest with a good feast. Lord Krishna, however, accepted a small leaf as food that was stuck to the vessel in which she had prepared food. He said their love is what filled his hunger. Therefore, he gave them blessings that the Pandavas would acquire Akshaya Patra from the Sun god. The Akshaya Patra was the vessel that gave Pandavas endless food throughout their exile. Therefore, it is a belief that what starts on this day is grows endlessly. Hence people buy gold and silver on Akshaya Tritiya, praying that their wealth grows endlessly.

The Puja timings for Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Vishnu on Akshaya Tritiya are on May 3 2022, from 5:39 am to 12:18 pm. The auspicious time to buy starts at 5:39 am on May 3 till 5:38 am on May 4, as per Hindu Panchang.
