She observed a fast for one month to seek the blessings of Lord Vishnu. Her devotion towards Lord Vishnu made her so pure and divine, but still, she refused to offer food and donations to Brahmins. 

Moreover, Lord Vishnu disguised himself as Sage or Sadhu to teach her a lesson. Lord Vishnu asked for food for that lady, but instead, she kept a handful of mud in Lord Vishnu’s hand. Lord Vishnu received the mud and took it to his Dham. So, because of her deeds, she died and came to Baikunth Dham, where she was provided with an empty hut and a mango tree. She was disappointed and asked why she was given an empty hut despite worshipping Lord Vishnu. 

Later, Lord Vishnu appeared in front of her and explained the reason behind getting an empty hut. She was told that she never donated any food to Brahmins, so this was a lesson for her. Later, she realised her mistake and asked forgiveness to Lord Vishnu. She started donating and doing charity work, and that’s how her hut was filled with food, wealth and prosperity. This is why this day is celebrated to ask for forgiveness and seek blessings from Lord Vishnu.

1. Rituals of Shattila Ekadashi
