Shani Dev Mythological Story

This story is the birth story of Shani Dev, which not only made him one of the fierce Gods but also made him the provider of justice and owner of karma chakra.

Devi Sarnyu, the wife of Lord Surya (Sun), could not bear his intense light, so she created her copy, Chhaya, or shadow, and went to the forest to pray to Lord Shiva. During this time, Devi Chaaya gave birth to Shani Dev. However, due to Lord Shani’s dark complexion, Surya Dev doubted Devi Chaaya’s character and rejected Shani Dev as his son.

Due to the insult to him and his mother, Shani Dev burned Surya Dev, turning him completely black. This led to darkness on the Earth. Upon knowing about this conflict, Lord Shiva appeared and made Lord Surya aware of the situation. Listening to Shiva’s words, Surya Dev understood the wisdom behind his words and accepted Shani as his child. Lord Shiva also blessed Lord Shani to be the most powerful planet among the Navgrah and gave him the power to provide justice and karmic results.

1. Take a bath early in the morning and purify yourself.
