Happy Easter Day

Easter Celebrations 2022:

Easter is a Christian celebration that honours the rebirth of Jesus Christ. According to Bible’s New Testament, Easter occurs three days following the crucifixion of Jesus by the Romans. Easter completes the “Passion of Christ”, which starts with 40 days of fasting and ends with the Holy Week. In addition, there is Holy Thursday (celebration of Jesus’s last supper) and the crucifixion of Jesus Christ on Good Friday. It is a part of the Holy Week which ends on Easter Sunday.

History

The story behind Easter narrates how the Roman authorities captured Jesus because he swore to be the “Son of God“. He was then condemned to death by the Roman emperor Pontius Pilate by crucifixion. His rebirth three days later marks the festival of Easter. People associate this day with the Jewish carnival of Passover.

About the Celebrations

Easter is a joyous occasion. The Sunday prior is called Palm Sunday, which observes the arrival of Jesus in Jerusalem. Many churches begin the festivity in the late hours of Saturday through a spiritual service called Easter Vigil. Non–religious festivals include the tradition of Easter eggs, which represent fertility and birth, and the Easter bunny delivers sweets and chocolates to kids on a Sunday morning.

What are Easter Eggs?

They are chocolate-filled or brightly painted eggs with sweets inside. They are common gifts on Easter. However, people prefer to loosen their purse lines and splurge on the weekend as the celebrations come after a 40-day holiday.

Some non-religious Easter practices include a treasure hunt, a quest for Easter eggs, and games such as egg rolling and egg decorating.

When is Easter in 2022?

Easter is on Sunday, April 17, 2022. Although many other holidays have fixed dates (for instance, Christmas is always on December 25), Easter’s dates change yearly. So choosing the date is like working out an Easter riddle: What occurs on the first Sunday following the full moon or after the spring equinox? Yep, that’s Easter.

Depending on the moon’s cycles, the holiday might be on any Sunday between March 22 and April 25. It can be confusing, so we have a cheat sheet of Easter dates for the next five years:

  • April 9, 2023 Sunday
  • March 31, 2024 Sunday
  • April 20, 2025 Sunday
  • April 5, 2026 Sunday
  • March 28, 2027 Sunday
