Maa Kalratri Story

The story of Maa Kalratri, the day 7 navratri goddess, goes back to ancient times. Moreover, it is said that when the gods and demons churned the ocean, a deadly poison known as “halahala” emerged. The poison was so toxic that it could destroy the entire universe.

Lord Shiva drank the poison to save the world and held it in his throat, turning it blue. However, this caused immense pain to Lord Shiva, and the world was plunged into darkness. To ease Lord Shiva’s pain, Goddess Parvati, his consort, took the form of Kalaratri and entered his throat.

The intense heat and burning sensation of the poison turned her complexion dark, giving her the name Kalaratri. Nevertheless, she absorbed the poison and saved the universe, bringing light back to the world. Additionally, she is depicted as a fearsome warrior with four hands.
