Chaitra Navratri Rituals

The ritual of Kalash Sthapana or Gathsthpans attracts immense wealth, abundance and prosperity in one’s life. So, if you are unaware of how to perform Kalash Sthapana pooja on Chaitra Navratri 2024, this section of our blog will help you. The devotees should take a shower before commencing the rituals of this puja. This is because, in Hindu mythology, pooja should be done with cleansed mind and body. So, this is why taking a bath before performing any religious activity is mandatory.

  • Cleaning the area and idols

Now that you have taken a bath and cleansed yourself, it is time to clean the area where you will perform the pooja. Once you have cleaned the area, start cleaning the idols of the gods and goddesses.

  • Prepare the seat

After cleaning the pooja area, you should prepare a place to perform the pooja. For example, you can cover a small wooden table with a red cloth. The colour red is auspicious, which is why it is used in several religious activities. Don’t forget to remember the Lord of beginnings, aka Lord Ganesha, amidst this ritual. Keeping Lord Ganesha in mind is an essential part of any pooja.

  • Kalash Preparation

The next step in the Kalash sthapana pooja ritual is Kalash preparation. First, place a Kalash(or pot) on the wooden table covered with red cloth. Then, add water to the Kalash. Finally, it would be best if you add some drops of gangajal into it.

  • Kalava and Swastika

The following step involves tying the Kalava around the neck of the Kalash. After that, you should make a swastika mark with roli (red powder) on Kalash.

  • Add dry mango leaves and betel nuts

Now take some mango leaves, coins and betel nuts and put them inside the kalash. In Hindu mythology, numbers like 5,7 and 11 are auspicious. So, you can add five mango leaves, seven or eleven, as per your choice.

  • Placing the coconut

Once you have added dry mango leaves, betel nuts and coins inside the kalash, carefully place the coconut on top of the kalash. In some households, people prefer to wrap a red dupatta or chunni around the coconut and then put it over the top of the pot.

  • Offer flowers and prayers to the deity

After completing everything, offer flowers to the Almighty. Then, remove any other thought from your mind and ask for his blessings with true devotion.
