However, on the first fast, one of the seven kids dies. This continued with each passing year, a kid dying on the Amavasya day. This made the wives upset.

When the Kuldevi, Goddess Poleramma, of the village came to check on the well-being of the people, she saw the upset wives and asked them about the problem. The wives expressed their grief.

The Goddess pitied her and told her to sprinkle some turmeric where the kids were cremated. The mother did exactly as the Goddess asked, and when she returned home, she saw all the kids alive. Since then, everyone in the village has started observing Pithori Amavasya.
