What is Shravana Putrada Ekadashi?

The Shravana Putrada Ekadashi 2024 is one of the 24 Ekadashis this year. This Ekadashi comes every year on the 11th day of Shukla Paksha (the waxing moon phase) in the month of Shravan. According to the Western calendar, it is in July or August.

The Shravana Putrada Ekadashi is also known as Pavitropana Ekadashi and Pavitra Ekadashi. The two Outrada Ekadashi in the year, the other one falls in the Shukla Paksha of Pausha maas (Dec – Jan). A fast that is kept by both husband and wife.

Despite his power and wealth, King Mahijit couldn’t have children and asked for help from many saints and sages but had no success. Finally, Sage Lomesh, through divine visions, revealed that the King was childless due to sin from his past life as a merchant.

The merchant had selfishly scared away a cow and her calf to drink all the water from a pond. This act cursed him to be childless in his next life, though his other good deeds allowed him to be reborn as a king.

The sage advised the King and Queen to worship Lord Vishnu and observe a fast on Shravana Ekadashi to lift the curse. They followed his advice, prayed, fasted, chanted mantras, and made donations. As a result, they were blessed with a brilliant son who became the heir to their kingdom.

2. Shravana Putrada Ekadashi Significance

The Ekadashi fast is kept on the night of the Ekadashi till the parana time. It is one of the powerful Ekadashi, and when the fast of Ekadashi is kept with sincerity, it fulfils the desire to have children, especially with a son.

1. Pooja Rituals

Take a bath early in the morning with the intention of Keeping the fast sincerely.
On this day, Lord Vishnu or Lord Shridhar is worshipped.
Clean the place of worship and offer Bhog and fresh flowers.
Light a Ghee Diya and apply chandan or kesar Tilak to God’s idol or picture.
Recite or listen to the Shravana Putrada Ekadashi Vrat Katha.
Visit Lord Vishnu’s temple, do puja, and meditate.

2. Remedies for Ill Effects

Use a Sankh and cow milk to pour it (Abhishek kare) on Lord Vishnu. This will fulfil your deepest desires.
Make a yellow flower garland and offer it to Lord Vishnu and put a chandan tilak on the forehead of Lord Vishnu. This remedy is done to receive the blessings of a child.
To make your childrens life happy, during the puja chant the mantra – “Om Namo Bhagwate Narayana” “ऊँ नमो भगवते नारायणाय” 108 times.
