So, due to the conjunction of these two planets, the Sun reflects pride and ego while the Moon reflects emotions and the subconscious mind. Vrat Katha of Phalguna Amavasya: “The Win of Gods and Goddess”

The ancient story of Phalguna Amavasya dates back to the mythological tale of Samundra Munthan. Once, the great sage Maharishi Durvasa got outraged with Indra Dev and all the gods and goddesses. Out of anger, he cursed all the Gods and took away all their power. On hearing this, the devil monsters tried to conquer and harm the Gods. All the Gods were helpless, and they went to Lord Vishnu and sought help.

Moreover, when Lord Vishnu understood the situation, he asked the Gods and the demons to churn the ocean of milk and take out the nectar of immortality. All the Gods and demons agreed to it and started doing as instructed by Lord Vishnu. When they had successfully churned all the nectar from the ocean, Jayant (Indra Dev’s Son) snatched away the pot of nectar and flew away.

Meanwhile, the war between the Gods and Demon continued for twelve days. So, to stop the war, Lord Vishnu took the avatar of Mohini, a beautiful female avatar of Lord Vishnu. Mohini had to divide the nectar of immortality among the gods and demons. Mohini tricked the demons during the war and took away all the nectar. However, nectar dropped in Prayag, Haridwar, Ujjain, and Nashik during the war. This is why taking a dip in holy water during Phalguna Amavasya is considered auspicious and sacred.
