Goddess Shailputri: An Introduction

• Origin – Shailputri means the daughter of the mountain, whereas ‘Shail’ means the mountain, and ‘Putri’ means the daughter. She took rebirth as Goddess Parvati after self-immolation as Goddess Sati.
• Navratri Worship – She is worshipped on the first day of Navratri. This year, the first day falls on October 15, 2023, on Sunday.
• Governing Planet – Goddess Shailputri, in the form of Adi Shakti, is related to the Moon, and she is believed to alleviate any bad effects of the Moon.
• Iconography – She mounts a bull and is also known as Vrisharudha (वृषारूढ़ा). She has two hands, and she has the lotus flower in her left hand and Trishul in her right hand. She is also famous as Hemavati and Parvati, the wife of Lord Shiva.

Goddess Shailputri Puja, Bhog, Mantra, and Vidhi

All male and female devotees should take a bath early in the morning. Wear clean and hygienic clothes of light colors. Start your fast with prayers to the idols of Lord Ganesha and Mata Shailputri. Also, chant the mantras of Mata Shailputri. After completing all chanting and mantras, perform aarti to appease the goddess.
