About Covid 19

India has witnessed a large drop in Covid-19 cases, but the world is witnessing a new wave, this time led by Omicron subvariant BA.2. The subvariant is more contagious, and it is rapidly spreading over the globe.

People are concerned that Covid infections may become more prevalent in India as a result of all of these fears.

India has expanded its vaccination programme to include all people above the age of 60, as well as children aged 12 to 14. Companies have begun to reopen their doors, and individuals are attempting to return to normalcy.

Experts have attempted to calm anxieties about a possible fourth Covid wave in India, citing high vaccination coverage (over 188 ,000,000) and protection from natural Covid infections as reasons. They also advocate for easing Covid-imposed restrictions, such as the mask requirement.

The Centre is always on the lookout. It has requested that states and UTs submit the INSACOG network with enough samples to detect new Covid variants.

On March 16, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya also presided over a high-level meeting on the COVID-19 situation. It called for more genome sequencing, more surveillance, and general vigilance.

Scientists and virologists predict a rise in infections in India in the following weeks and months. Nonetheless, owing of widespread past infections and immunizations in the South Asian nation, they anticipate the new type will be less devastating than the last delta wave.

Concerns about omicron are growing.

The recent identification and spread of the new omicron strain around the world has sparked concerns of a third wave of infections.
