Lord Krishna and Arjuna: The Divine Relationship

Lord Krishna and Arjuna share a brotherly divine relationship. Krishna calls Arujuna ‘ Anagha’, a pious person who has not sinned. The Lord helped and motivated Arjuna in the Mahabharata and before the war. He has been Arjuna’s philosopher and accurate guide as he shared his timeless knowledge.

As Arjuna was his devotee, Krishna gave him divine vision. They have defined the battle of Kurukshetra for everyone by portraying themselves sitting in a single chariot. Through this, they have been an example of divine power and friendship. Their divine relationship has forever proved to be a victory, overcoming the most challenging problems. Below, let’s know why was Krishna telling Geeta to Arjun.

Lord Krishna Telling Geeta to Arjun

We know that Krishna chose Arjuna as the receiver of his advice because he thought he was eligible compared to the other brothers, Drona, Karna, and Bhishma. Lord Krishna found Bhishma uncompromising and Karna too proud, but Arjuna was different as he was open to Krishna’s advice.

Lord Krishna saw that Arjuna had a hidden fear of losing his kinsmen in the battle of Mahabharata. This made Arjuna closer to Humanity. Krishna also noticed his qualities like understanding, ethical and moral values, and courtesy. This is the reason of Krishna telling Geeta to Arjun. He imparted his advice to Arjuna, reading the Bhagavad Geeta before the Mahabharata War.

Vishwaroop of Lord Krishna in Mahabharata

In Sanskrit, Vishwaroop means having all kinds of shapes. Lord Krishna, the Palanhaar, gave Arjuna divine knowledge (Geeta Gyaan) of the Bhagavad Gita when he decided not to fight with his Kaurava brothers in the battle of Mahabharata.

Lord Krishna had shown Arjuna his real Vishwaroop, one of his infinite forms. He emerged in the universal form with the faces of various gods, eyes, and arms, all of which had a wonderful radiance. He showed this form to Arjuna because he had gifted Arjuna a divine vision. Arjuna was somewhat scared seeing his Visvaroopa, so he requested the Lord to come to his original form.

Krishna Telling Geeta to Arjun: The Important Shlokas

Krishna explained shlokas to Arjuna as he believed Arjuna understood and valued ethical principles. Lord Krishna imparted the knowledge of Bhagavad Geeta to Arjuna before and during the war. This was the reason of Krishna telling Geeta to Arjun. He explained some of his Shlokas to the Pandava. Some of them are:

1. “यदा, यदा हि धर्मस्य, ग्लानिर् भवति भारत..,”

“Yada, Yada Hi Dharmasya, Glanir Bhavati Bharata..,”

This is a Shloka of the Bhagavad Geeta that Krishna explains to Arjuna in the Mahabharata: Whenever Adharma increases on this earth, he will come to establish Dharma to save his people.

2. “कर्मण्ये वाधिकारस्ते, मा फलेषु कदाचना। मा कर्म-फल हेतुर भू मा, ते सङ्गोस्त्वकर्मणि..”

“Karmanye Vadhikaraste, Ma Phalesu Kadachana. Ma Karma-Phala Hetur bhu Ma, te Sangostvakarmani..”

In this Shloka, Lord explains the importance of focusing on our goals without expecting results. Different factors, such as our past deeds, God’s efforts, and destiny, are involved when we check our results or outcomes. Krishna tells us to concentrate on our job without thinking about the results. This is why we get good results when we entirely focus on our tasks.

3. “रसो हम अप्सु कौन्तेय प्रभास्मि, शशि सूर्य योः…प्रणवः सर्व विदेषु, शब्दः खे पौरुषम् नृषु..”

“Raso Ham Apsu Kaunteya Prabhasmi, Shashi Surya Yoh…Pranavah Sarva Videshu, Shabdah Khe Paurusham Nrishu..”

Here, Shree Palanhaar, the Supreme God, explains that he is the only light in Sansaar (the Universe). He’s present everywhere in the Universe. He says that he has the taste of pure water because nobody likes to drink seawater, and everyone prefers to drink pure water.

He also says that he is the light of the Sun and the planet’s moon. Krishna also states that he is present on the vedic mantras to become more acceptable to humans, as people say that chanting his mantras gives one eternal peace and happiness. He states that he is the ability in man and the essence of everything in this Universe. Thus was Lord Krishna telling Geeta to Arjun.

4. “नैनं छिंदन्ति शास्त्राणि, नैनं दहति पावक..न चैनं क्लेदयन्त्यपो, न सोसयति मारुतः..”

“Nainam Chindanti Shastrani, Nainam Dahati Pavaka..Na Chainam Kledayantyapo, Na Sosayati Marutah..”

Shree Krishna says that the human body is just a medium of the soul. The soul is transparent and cannot be destroyed in any form. It cannot be cut into two by any weapon, burnt by the Agni (fire), and the wind cannot wither it.
