Meaning of Utpanna Ekadashi 2024

Utpanna or Utpatti Ekadashi is the 11th day of the waning phase of the Krishna Paksha in November or December (Margashirsha). Utpanna Ekadashi 2024 is the birth anniversary of Goddess Ekadashi, one of the powers (Shaktis) of Lord Vishnu. We fast on this day to get relief from all kinds of sins of our past and present lives. According to Hindu Mythology, a demon named Mura lived long ago. He was a general of the Narakasura army. His violence scared the demigods. He was the one who threw Lord Indra out of this throne. Indra went to Lord Shiva and asked for his help. Shiva took him to Lord Vishnu. For many years, the Supreme Lord fought with the demon.

Vishnu went to a cave to rest. There, he fell asleep. Mura conspired to kill Vishnu inside the cave. The Demon was not aware of his last day. Ekadashi, a beautiful lady, appeared before him. She saved Lord Palanhaar from the dreadful evil. She pleased Vishnuwith her powers. He asked the Goddess for desired rewards for killing the demon. To this, Ekadashi asked for three boons.

Boons of Goddess Ekadashi

The Lord granted her the wishes. He made her the most auspicious day. This year, Utpanna Ekadashi 2024 will be celebrated on 26th November (Tuesday). The Boons were:

First was that Vishnu will always love her, and she will be chosen first.
To destroy sins, she would have the most significant value in days (Tithis).
She would give good health and wealth to those devotees who complete a fast on her days.

The one who fasts in Utpanna Ekadashi should keep his vrat from the dawn of Ekadashi to Dwadashi.
Devotees should take a bath and wear clean clothes.
After this, they should sprinkle gangajal in the house.
A Devotee should light a diya with ghee.
He should worship Lord Krishna in Brahma Muhurta.
After worshipping Krishna, they should worship Lord Vishnu and Mother Ekadashi. It would be good if he chants mantras and hymns about Vishnu.
They should take a vegetarian diet.
The diet should not contain any spices, grains and pulses.
Animal killing is prohibited on this day.
A person should donate things to the needy on this auspicious day.
Devotees keeping a fast should not sleep during the day and on Dwadashi.
