History of the temple
The history of the temple dates back more than 250 years ago. It has an idol of Goddess Tara Devi, brought from West Bengal to Himachal Pradesh. One fine day a king from the Sen Dynasty was visiting the area, and he went for a hunt in the nearby forests. Unfortunately, he got lost and had to sleep in the jungle. Later, he dreamt Devi Tara and Lord Hanuman, and Bhairava visiting him and suggested that a temple be made in Devi’s name.
The king took upon the task almost immediately and even donated some of his lands for the same. A temple was built with a wooden idol of Mata Tara Devi to be worshiped by the devotees.
After a few years, another king from the same dynasty had a dream where Mata insisted on relocating the temple to the Tarav Parvat. As requested, a magnificent idol made of a rare combination of 8 metals was installed with due rituals. People today continue to go to the temple to offer their prayers.
