The festival of Srikrishna Janmashtami is directly associated with the birth of Lord Shri Krishna, the eighth avatar of Lord Vishnu. Every year, Lord Krishna’s birthday is celebrated on the 8th day of Bhadrapada month’s Krishan Paksha (waning phase of the Moon). According to the English calendar, this time usually falls in August–September. In 2021, this holy festival will be celebrated on August 30 on Monday.
Born to Devaki on the Ashtami Tithi (eighth day), almighty Lord Krishna incarnated on this mortal world when Rohini Nakshatra prevailed. This year, devotees will be blessed to celebrate the 5248th birth anniversary of Lord Krishna. Read this blog and learn more about the things associated with Krishna Janmashtami.
Srikrishna Janmashtami – The Birth of Almighty
The holy day of Janmashtami is also known by various names, such as ‘Gokulashtami,’ Ashtami Rohini,’ Sree Jayanthi,’ Krishnashtami,’ and Srikrishna Jayanti. Although Janmashtami is celebrated in all parts of the world, it has a special association with Mathura, where Lord Krishna incarnated in a human body. All of us know the story of King Kansa, the birth of Lord Krishna, his Leela in Mathura, and the killing of Kansa by Krishna ji.
Janmashtami is the day when devotees and believers keep on fasting the whole day to pay their respect to the almighty. The mission of Lord Krishna’s life (avatar) has been described in the following 7 and 8 verses of Sanskrit written in Chapter 4 of the holy Gita.
