Lord Krishna and Draupadi

It would be almost blasphemous to not start by mentioning the epic Mahabharata. Once when Lord Krishna had hurt himself, Draupadi (wife of the Pandavas) tore the side of her sari and tied it tightly to his wrist to stop the bleeding. Thus, after that, Lord Krishna promised to protect Draupadi, and they developed a bond of brother and sister. Helming that promise, Lord Krishna saved the integrity of his sister Draupadi at the time of cheerharan.

Humayun and Rani Karnvati

When the widowed Queen of Chittor, Rani Karnvati’s kingdom, was under attack by Bahadur Shah (Sultan of Gujarat), and she couldn’t do much to protect it, she sought the Mughal Emperor Humayun’s help. Thus, she sent the sacred thread of Rakhi to the Emperor. Humayun was touched by this heartfelt gesture and gathered his troops and marched toward Chittor to help his sister. Therefore, this festival also signifies unity and love between brothers and sisters. Moreover, it promotes the idea of togetherness and family love. This also strengthens the love between the two and helps them grow together.

Significance

On the day of Raksha Bandhan, sisters dress up in beautiful attires and decorate the thali. Brothers also get ready early in the morning and prepare gifts for their sisters.
