Maa Bhavani: The Goddess Of Tulja Bhawani Temple!

Maa Bhavani, or Tulja Bhavani Devi, is an incarnation of Goddess Durga, who is a form of mother for her devotees. Bhavani Mata: Form of Adi Parashakti 

Devi Bhavani is one of the forms of Goddess Durga. She is Adi Parashakti, and she is portrayed as having eight arms. Goddess Bhawani holds a trident, dagger, arrow, chakra, shankh, bow, bowl, and the head of the demon Mahishasura. Devotees worship her during the Hindu rituals for her fearless divine feminine power.

Origin of Maa Bhavani

Maa Bhavani is a powerful form of Adi Parashakti, the Supreme Goddess. The name Bhavani comes from Bhava, a form of Lord Shiva. She is not just his consort but his Shakti, the divine energy. As Adi Parashakti, she is the source of all creation.

Mahishasura Mardini: Destroyer of the Demon Mahisha

We all know that Maa Durga killed the demon that created havoc for all the Gods, but Maa Bhavani, Durga’s incarnation, had killed the demon. Mahishasura, who was half man and half buffalo, was very powerful due to the boon of God Agni.  He created havoc in heaven, chasing away all the Gods. This made all the Gods come together and seek help from Lord Vishnu and Shiva.

Moreover, when all the Devtas asked Lord Shiva and Vishnu for help, both the Gods already knew that Mahishasura would only be killed by women.  Thus, all the Gods decided to form a Goddess who could fight against the deadly demon. With the collective power of all the Gods, they finally formed a Goddess, which made Goddess Bhavani Devi have eight arms with essential weapons needed during the war.

Eventually, after ten thousand years of fighting the battle, the Goddess chopped off his head and killed the demon Mahishasura.

Did Maa Bhavani Give a Sword To Shivaji Maharaj? 

According to the Skanda Purana, Bhavani Mata has offered Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj a sword. He was a faithful devotee of Maa Bhavani who always visited Tulija Bhavani Temple to seek her blessing. Pleased by his devotion, Maa Bhavani gave him a sword (Bhavani Talwar or Bhavani Kadga) to successfully win the expeditions. 

Moreover, Maa Bhavani is the patron deity of the Bhosale Maratha clan to which Shivaji Maharaj belonged. Shivaji and his mother were devout followers of Maa Bhawani, who always protected him during the Great War. • Bhavani Jayanti is the day she came to Earth, which falls on the same day as Basanti Durga Puja and Chaitra Durga Ashtami, the best days to devote oneself to her.
