Matrika Chakra: Story and Importance of Matrikas

Let’s learn these divine stories about how Matrikas helped people with problems. This will help us understand how they primarily formed the Matrika chakra.

1. Story of Shiva and Demon Andhaka

Once, Maa Parvati playfully closed Lord Shiva’s eyes, darkening the entire universe. From this darkness, a drop of Shiva’s sweat fell on the ground. From this, Andhaka, the demon, was born. King Hiranyaksha raised him. The demon performed penance to please Lord Brahma. His penance pleased Brahma, and he asked Brahma for immense immunity from death unless he got a woman who would be like a mother to him. Listening to this, Lord Brahma granted him the boon.

Fight Between Lord Shiva And Demon

The boon made Andhaka arrogant, and he stepped into Mount Kailash. Entering Kailash, Goddess Parvati’s beauty surprised him. He decided to possess her without knowing her true identity. He should have remembered about the condition of his boon. The demon started a fight with Lord Shiva with a vast army.

The blood that fell on the ground gave birth to a new demon. Shiva summoned Maa Kali and Matrikas. The Matrikas and Goddess Kali drank each drop of his blood, weakening Andhaka. Lord Shiva made him realise his evil deeds and imparted his divine knowledge. He purified the demon’s soul, which turned him into a heavenly being.

2. Matrika Chakra: Matrikas and Goddess Chamunda

Goddess Chamunda and Ambika used the help of Matrikas to kill Raktavija, whose blood fell on the ground, giving birth to new demons. They drank each drop of blood. Fortunately, this made the demon weak, and he was killed. People worship Matrikas in many parts of India, especially in the southern part.

Connection of Matrika Chakra and Letters

We associate the Matrika Shakti with letters. They introduced the eight groups of letters in Sanskrit, which are prevalent today. This shakti tells us that how we communicate and what we say greatly impacts our lives, as communication is a part of Yogic Sadhana. Words have the power to destroy, and the proper use of words can make us good people.

Matrika Chakra: The Shabda Brahma Concept

The Spotavada or Shabda Brahma concept deals with Tantric theory, which states that every word originates from sound. The Matrika shakti is the power of all sound syllables (Bija). Our entire universe is formed of Matrikas (fifty distinct mother vibrations).

Rishis or Yogis got to know this long ago. This led to the formation of the ancient language of India, which was inseparable from the Brahman. Realising the principle (Vak-Tatva) called manifest Matrika. Rishis formulated the Sanskrit language. We call this Alphabets, Akshara. Till today, some muni rishis prefer to communicate with us in this language.
