The Ayanamsa calculator is a tool that helps in calculating the placement of planets, stars and other celestial bodies using the ayanamsa calculation methods. In vedic astrology, there are several methods to calculate ayanamsa.
The placement of planets in our birth chart can influence our personalities and life experiences. By taking into account the ayanamsa value, we can get a more reliable reading of our horoscope. The ayanamsa value can have different effects on different areas of our lives. For example, it can affect our relationships, careers, and health.
One can take advantage of several benefits an ayanamsa calculator provides. Below is a detailed explanation of how an individual can benefit from using the Ayanamsa calculator:
To gain a deeper knowledge about your horoscope and birth chart, the only thing you will need is your birth details. Follow the simple instructions below to understand the workings of Ayanamsa Calculator:
Derived from the Sanskrit words, ‘ayan’ means precession and ‘amsha’ means a component or a portion; Ayanamsa means the difference between two systems of measuring time. In Vedic astrology, the Ayanamsa meaning is all about "difference in longitude" and refers to the fact that the two zodiacs are not fixed on each other but move at different rates.
Ayanamsa calculates the angle between the sidereal zodiac signs (nirayana) and tropical zodiac signs (sayana). However, interestingly, there is no single ‘correct’ value for Ayanamsa because different astrologers and astronomers use different values based on their observations and calculations.
Ayanamsa tells the difference between the tropical and sidereal zodiac signs. It is used to make corrections for the positions of the planets. This is because the planets move at different speeds. So, keeping all the positions and placements, Ayanamsa helps in generating a reliable horoscope for an individual.
Not only this, but Ayanamsa can also have an impact on the strengths and weaknesses of the planets. What happens is that sometimes, a planet may be weaker or placed in a weaker position in one zodiac sign than another. In this case, Ayanamsa can correct this and provide a more reliable astrological reading and prediction.
There are two types of Ayanamsa: the Sayana (tropical) Ayanamsha and the Nirayana (sidereal) Ayanamsha. However, you must be wondering which ayanamsa to use to calculate the placement of celestial bodies in our horoscope. Have a look at the table below to understand which Ayanamsa is the most reliable in astrology:
Basis | Sayana Ayanamsa | Nirayana Ayanamsa |
---|---|---|
Based on | Position of the Sun in the zodiac | Fixed Starts |
Usage | Commonly used by Western astrologers | Commonly used by Indian astrologers |
Calculation | Considers Earth’s tilt on the axis for calculation | Prefers fixed stars in calculation rather than the Sun |
Process | Easy process | Complex process |
Below is the complete calculation of Ayanamsa using the Lahiri Ayanamsa formula:
A+B= Ayanamsa
A= 16.90709 x Year/10000 - 0.757371 x Year/1000 x Year/1000 - 6.92416100010001000
B= (Month-1 + date/30) X 1.1574074/1000
Considering this formula, let us calculate the Ayanamsa for the date 01-4-2024 (1st April 2001). But first, we need to calculate the value of A and B.
A= 16.90709 x 2.001/10000 - 0.757371 x 2.001/1000 x 2.001/1000 - 6.92416100010001000
A = 16.90709 x 2.009/1000 – 0.757371 x 2.009/1000 x 2.009/1000 - 6.92416
A = 33.96634381 – 3.056810703 - 6.92416
A = 23.9853731
Now, we calculate the values of ‘B’. Using the formula B above, we get the following:
B = 6.5 x 1.1574074/1000= 7.5231481/1000
B = 0.0075231481
Ayanamsa = A + B = 23.9853731 + 0.0075231481 = 23.9928962
Now that we have the Ayanamsa in degrees, we have to convert this figure into minutes and seconds. After the calculation, we will learn the Ayanamsa value. So, the real value of Ayanamsa is 23 degrees, 59 minutes and 34 seconds.
In Vedic astrology, there are various methods for calculating Ayanamsa. Astrologers and astronomers use different methods and values depending on their observations and calculations. The one thing that separates all these methods is the year of the coincidence when the tropical and sidereal zodiac signs coincide. Below are the top ayanamsa calculation methods used in astrology:
The Raman ayanamsa method is named after its creator, Chandrasekhar Venkata Raman. This method is one of the most popular ayanamsa methods used today and is considered very trustworthy. The technique finds the planets' position at the time of your birth and the functions of the worlds at the time of calculation. BV Raman chose the year of coincidence of both the zodiac signs (tropical and sidereal) in 397 AD.
Krishnamurti Ayanamsha is a method of calculating the position of planets in one's horoscope. It is named after Indian astrologer Krishnamurti, who developed it in the early 20th century. Krishnamurti Ayanamsa chose the year of coincidence between sidereal and tropical zodiac signs in 291 AD.
The method of Shri Yukteshwar Ayanamsa was developed by Shri Yukteshwar Giri, a renowned Indian astrologer, and takes precession into account, just like the Krishnamurti Ayanamsha. Some astrologers argue that the Shri Yukteshwar Ayanamsha is more accurate than Krishnamurti's system. As per Shri Yukteshwar’s beliefs, the year of the coincidence between the Nirayana and Sayana zodiacs was somewhere in 499 AD.
The Chitra Ayanamsha is a type of Ayanamsa that is based on the role of the star Spica concerning the vernal equinox. The Chitra Ayanamsha has an accuracy of about one arc second, which makes it more accurate than other ayanamsa methods.
Indian astrologers most frequently and reliably determine the dates of auspicious festivals and events, like marriages, using this ayanamsa Lahiri effects calculator. The Ayanamsa Lahiri meaning in English is based on how the Sun affects each zodiac and is used officially to create calendars.
