What is Tarabalam?

Let us first start by understanding Tarabalam meaning. The Sanskrit word Tarabalam is made up of two words, 'Tara', which means star and 'Bala', which means strength. That adds up to define it as the strength given by stars.

The more accurate description of the Tarabalam table defines it as the energy that the Muhurat Nakshatra provides to your Janma Nakshatra. The energy can either be good or bad. It is essentially used to compare the compatibility of the Muhurat Nakshatra to the Janma Nakshatra.

The moon transits through the 27 Nakshatra during one lunar cycle. A person's Janma Nakshatra is the Nakshatra or a collection of stars corresponding to the moon at the time of their birth. A person experiences the Nakshatra's effect in all the primary areas of their life. It even determines what characteristics the person will have while growing.

A Muhurat is the time to start something important and new in one's life. To have a long and happy relationship or undertaking, one should consider all the possible factors that may affect this occasion.

A Shubh Muhurat is an auspicious time after considering the various influencing cosmic factors. Some of them are planetary combinations and their positions in different houses. It is laid down by the Vedic astrology, the strength of the moon, the Panchang etc.

One such factor is the Tarabalam. Calculating the Tarabalam and Chandrabalam is important because their comic counterparts are the dominant factors that affect a person's emotions and mind. As for the importance of Tarabala in Muhurat, one can even say that it is the next most crucial factor after planetary alignment. One needs to check this to understand if the time decided is in favour of the person undertaking it or not.

This system is more religiously followed in Southern India, along with the Chandrabalam and Panchakki considerations. So considering all these factors will get the best possible date out there.

How to calculate Tarabalam?

Tarabalam requires calculation and interpretation to understand how the Janma Nakshatra can influence Muhurat Nakshatra. Therefore, the first thing one needs to do to know whether the muhurat is good is to identify the type of Tarabalam being formed. To do so, one has to follow these given steps:

  • Identify the Janma Nakshatra and muhurat Nakshatra.
  • Then, start counting from the Janma Nakshatra and count upto Muhurat Nakshatra. The Janma Nakshatra and Muhurat Nakshatra also need to be considered in the count.
  • Divide the obtained number by 9. The remainder gives the type of Tarabalam.

E.g., If your Janma Nakshatra is Bharani and today's Nakshatra, which will be the Muhurat Nakshatra is Swati, then your Nakshatra count would be 14. Dividing it by nine will give us the remainder of 5. It is not considered an auspicious number per the Tarabalam calculations.

All the possible combinations and results are usually plotted in a Tarabalam Chart. It is used for an easy reference while deciding on a Shubh Muhurat. To use it, one has to identify the row of their Janma Nakshatra and the column of the Muhurat Nakshatra. And then have to find the intersecting cell.

The number denoted in that cell tells about the type of Tarabalam. It is often colour-coded to help identify whether it is good or bad Muhurat.

But, more often than not, sometimes you may not know your Janam Muhurat or what Nakshatra the moon will be during your Muhurat. You can avoid all the hassle of long calculations and lengthy study by taking the easy way out. InstaAstro's Tarabalam calculator will tell you in a few seconds if the day you are planning for the event is suitable for it or not.

How Does Tarabalam Calculator Work?

Tarabalam calculators are programmed to calculate the Nakshatras for any given day the calculator is being used. These Calculators usually tell if the Muhurat for that day will be good or not. But InstaAtsro's Tarabalam calculator includes more information like the Janam Nakshatra, the Nakshatra count and even the Muhurat Nakshatra. Sport from that, it also tells what the resultant Tara of the Tarabalam is and what specific aspect it stands for.

  • InstaAstro's Tarabalam chart calculator requires minimum information to work out the auspicious nature of the Muhurat being considered.
  • One needs to enter their name, date and time of birth, and place of birth.
  • And the Tarabalam chart calculator will tell if the Tarabalam is strong enough for the present date or not.

This Tarabalam for marriage calculator is used for marriage and relationship compatibility matching too.

What are the different types of Tarabalam?

Since the remainder comes between 1-9, there are nine types of Tarabalams. They can be classified into very good, good, bad and very bad Taras. They are:

Janma Tara

This type is for when the remainder is 1. It is related to the birth of Nakshatra and usually indicates danger to the individual. Janma Tara combination is formed when two Nakshatras of the same Paryaya are considered. Overall, it is considered to be a bad Tarabalam. But spiritual initiation can be undertaken under such Muhurats.

Sampat Tara

For remainder 2, this type is identified. It is related to wealth and is usually considered a perfect combination. At least one of the two considered Nakshatras is ruled by Venus in this case. This time is excellent for monetary-related decisions and starting, as the possibility of financial gain is maximum.

Vipat Tara

This type is, for the remainder 3, a forebear of accidents and damages. This Tarabalam is not the first choice to start any work. Saturn often rules the Nakshatras forming this combination. They hence harm whatever is being undertaken during this time.

Kshema Tara

Remainder 4 corresponds to this type of Tarabalam. 'Kshema' stands for comfort. This Tarabalam is often associated with prosperity and comfort. That is why this corresponds to a good Muhurat to start professional work, as that will have a high chance of success.

Pratyak Tara

When the remainder is 5, this Tarabalam type arises. It is generally an indicator of a very bad Muhurat and should be avoided at all costs. ‘Pratyak’ stands for obstacles, and the work done in this Muhurat with this Tarabalam may lead to mental unrest.

Sadhana Tara

This tarabalam is observed when the remainder comes out to be 6. It is a very good Tarabalam to have, as it is associated with achieving one's goals. This is suitable for undertaking all types of auspicious works.

Naidhana Tara

This type is for the remainder of 7. It is considered to be a very bad Tarabalam. The term Naidhana stands for 'destruction'. There is no rectification for this; hence, any Muhurat with this tarabalam should be strictly avoided.

Mitra Tara

This type is for when the remainder is 8. The Jupiter-ruled Nakshatras usually form this configuration; hence, it is a good Tarabalam. More than success, support and comfort are the things one would achieve if one undertook some work during this Tarabalam.

Parama Mitra Tara

Remainder 9 corresponds to this type of Tarabalam. Since the name stands for 'best friends', that makes it a very good Tarabalam to undertake events at the community level as that will make them win the favour of the people around them. This is often demonstrated by Mercury-ruled Nakshatras.

So from these, one can observe that the 2nd, 4th, 6th, 8th, and 9th Taras have a good Tarabalam.

What can be done to prevent the effect of bad Tarabalams?

Sometimes, the Muhurats that are pre-decided might not have suitable Tarabalams and hence need to have some measures to be problem free. Tarabalam remedies, according to astrology, are known as Pariharas. Some common Parihars for the Tarabalam incompatibilities are:

  • Janma Tara Dosha- One should donate yellow and leafy vegetables.
  • Vipat Tara Dosha- Donating jaggery is considered to be a good remedy for this.
  • Pratyak Tara Dosha- Donating salt will help to overcome the problems under this Tarabalam.
  • Naidhan Tara Dosha- It should be avoided in ideal cases. But if unavoidable, one should donate til along with some gold to negate the effects of this Muhurat.

Since all the Nakshatras have a fixed order of arrangement, hence, it is straightforward to calculate the tarabalam for each. Based on that, one can observe that the Nakshatra compatibility is fixed.
