The Sanskrit word Tarabalam is composed of two words: 'Tara', meaning ‘star’, and 'Bala', meaning ‘strength’. That adds up to define it as the strength given by stars.
The more accurate description defines it as the energy that the Muhurat Nakshatra provides to the Janma Nakshatra. This energy can be either positive or negative and is used to compare the compatibility of the Muhurat Nakshatra to the Janma Nakshatra.
The Tarabalam calculator calculates the Nakshatras for any given day on which the calculator is used. These Calculators usually indicate whether the Muhurat for that day will be favourable.
Calculating Tarabalam manually can be time-consuming. However, first, you'll need to understand the correct process for doing so. Let's take a look at a step-by-step guide for this.

There are nine types of Tarabalam. They can be classified into very good, good, bad and very bad Taras. These are as follows:
Janma Tara is for when the remainder is 1 and is related to the birth of Nakshatra. It indicates danger to the individual and is said to form when two Nakshatras of the same Paryaya are considered.
For the remainder 2, Sampat Tara is identified. It is related to wealth and is usually considered a perfect combination. Venus rules at least one of the two considered Nakshatras in this case.
This time is excellent for making monetary-related decisions and starting, as the possibility of financial gain is at its maximum.
Vipat Tara is, for the remainder of 3, an indication of accidents and damages. Saturn often rules the Nakshatras, forming this combination, making it not the first choice for starting any work. This Tarabalam represents negative energies that can cause damage or harm.
Remainder 4 corresponds to Kshema Tara of Tarabalam. 'Kshema' stands for ‘comfort’. This Tarabalam is often associated with prosperity and comfort. That is why this corresponds to a favourable Muhurat for starting professional work, as it will have a high chance of success.
When the remainder is 5, Pratyak Tara Tarabalam type arises. It is generally an indicator of a very bad Muhurat and should be avoided at all costs. ‘Pratyak’ stands for obstacles, and the work done in this Tarabalam may lead to mental unrest.
Sadhana Tarabalam is observed when the remainder is 6. It is a very good Tarabalam to have, as it is associated with achieving one's goals. This is suitable for undertaking all types of auspicious works as it brings fortunate and favourable outcomes.
Naidhana Tara is for the remainder of 7 and is considered very bad Tarabalam. The term Naidhana stands for 'destruction'. There is no rectification for this. Any Muhurat with this Tarabalam should be strictly avoided as it can result in negative or inauspicious outcomes.
Mitra Tara is for when the remainder is 8. The Jupiter-ruled Nakshatras usually form this configuration; hence, it is a good Tarabalam. It is considered an auspicious Tarabalam to start or continue any work, as it brings success, support, and comfort.
Remainder 9 corresponds to Parama Mitra of Tarabalam, which reflects in Mercury-ruled nakshatras. During this Tarabalam, one should undertake community-level events. This Tarabalam is also said to be auspicious in winning the favour of the people around them.
Sometimes, the pre-decided Muhurats may not have suitable Tarabalams and therefore require some measures to ensure problem-free outcomes. Some common Parihars, Tarabalam remedies, are as follows:
