Why is Lord Ganesha Called Ekdanta?

Lord Ganesha is called Ekdants as he only has one tooth. But what happened to the other tooth? The story of Lord Ganesha becoming Ekdanta has its roots in the time Lord Ganesha was still a child and was called Bal Ganesh. According to the story in our Vedas, Ved Vyas wanted someone to help him write the Mahabharata Epic, but he could not find one, so he went to Kailasha Mountain to ask Lord Shiva for help. Lord Shiva said that Lord Ganesha could do this task. Lord Ganesha agreed to write the epic but told Ved Vyas to speak to match the speed of his writing continuously. Ved Vyas agreed to this and told Lord Ganesha to only write a word after understanding its meaning.

Lord Ganesha agreed to this. After this, Lord Ganesha sat down to write. Everything was going smoothly. However, in the middle, his feather, which he was using to write, broke. Lord Ganesha asked Moushak to get another feather for him. However, the feather broke again. Lord Ganesha got angry and thought of ending this problem. He broke one of his teeth and started writing with it so that it would not break and the process of writing would continue smoothly. Ved Vyas was shocked at this act of Lord Ganesha but was also happy to see his devotion to completing the writing task. This was the reason lord Ganesha is called Ekdanta.
