Hinduism is a worldview, not just faith or a means of worship. From our birth, there are 16 Sanskar that are performed till death. Each has its own significance in our daily lives.
It has a scientific foundation for every belief. There is undoubtedly some biological validity to all activities. Hinduism has a history of more than 5000 years and includes a wealth of cultural and mystical rituals practised throughout one's personal life.
The Mundan ceremonial is one of the principal rituals carried out that are referenced in the legal texts, or smritis, of the Vedas.
The baby's first hair removal ceremony, the eighth Sanskar, is called Mundan Sanskar.
The Mundan Sanskar, also known as the Chudakaran Sanskar, will be discussed in detail. The concepts of this Sanskar are also unique. For example, for the first occasion after birth, a child's head is shaven in this Sanskar.
For beneficial results, the Mundan Sanskar should be conducted on holy days and according to the right muhurat and shubh muhurat tomorrow. Therefore, it should be undertaken following the Hindu calendar during the uttarayan periods, which are Chaitra, Vaishakha, Jyeshtha, Ashadha, Magha, and Phalguna. However, it is advised to avoid performing Mundan of the Firstborn during Jyeshtha and Ashadha and wait till Devshayani Ekadashi.
Consequently, this ritual imparts the importance of cleanliness to youngsters. Therefore, let's explore the deep meaning of this ceremony in a person's life.
Shaving a baby's first natural hair is a practice known as "tonsure" in English. Hindu religion considers the first tonsure for babies' legacy to be essential and obligatory. The barber is responsible for removing the baby's hair at the Mundan ritual. Hindus perform the Mundan ritual between 4 months and three years after the child is born.
According to Hindu mythology, it is believed that a soul acquires a human body after 84 lakh yonis. Each yoni is thought to impact how humans are born. The mundan ceremony is said to be a purifying ritual from earlier yonis. Shaving the child's hair is said to release him or her from the karma of their earlier years.
One cannot simply throw the hair cut off in the ceremony. Instead, every single strand is collected and offered to God or is submerged in the Ganges’ or any other sacred water.
It kills all the negativity around the infant, giving him a long and happy life and also shields the kid from the malicious gaze.

Sign of Ascendant
One of the critical components of the muhurat of Mundan Sanskar is Ascendant. All Ascendants are lucky for this ritual, except the AscendantAscendant of the 8th sign from the child's Lunar sign. With a benefic planet in the Kendra and triangle houses and an evil planet on the third, sixth, or eleventh houses, a favourable planet's AscendantAscendant and Navamsha are taken into account in this Sanskar. The muhurat is perfect when the eighth home is empty.
Nakshatra
Swati, Punarwasu, Shatavisha, Ashwini, Hasta, Shravan, Ghanistha, Pushya, Mrigashira, Revati, Chitra, and Jyestha are all highly fortunate to Chudakaran Sanskar. Therefore, any of these nakshatras should be present on the day of the Sanskar.
Tithi
The favourable days for this ceremony are considered to be Dwitiya, Tritiya, Panchami, Saptami, Dashami, Ekadashi, and Triyodashi. The wonderful days are also supposed to be Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
Boy and Girl difference
Males and females experience the Mundan differently. For example, the girls' heads are shaved in the mundan ceremony for baby girl, but the guys' crowns are left with a Chuda or tuft of hair. This is often referred to as Shika and genuinely denotes the boy's Gotra.
Day of Mundan
Astrologers advise performing Mundan rites in the odd years or the first, third, fifth, and seventh years following a child's birth. Even years are seen as unlucky for completing Mundan Sanskar in Hindu astrology.
The most significant time to do Mundan for the son or older daughter occurs when the sun is in the sign of Taurus.
If the mother is pregnant for over five months, Mundan should not be performed on a kid under five.
The month's second, third, fifth, seventh, tenth, eleventh, or thirteenth lunar days are all auspicious.
The unlucky days to do Mundan are Tuesday, Saturday, and Sunday. The rest of the days are suitable for performing this samskara.
Don't choose the child's day of birth for Mundan Sanskar. For example- You must stay away from Wednesday if your child was born on that day.
Restriction on Mundan in case of:
If the Moon is transiting the 4th, 8th, or 12th house from the kid's sign of birth, according to numerology, Mundan Sanskar should be delayed. In addition, if tara dosha exists in the third, fifth, or seventh house, the Sanskar should be prevented.
Some ceremonies are considered one of the purest and are auspicious in a newborn’s life. So, there should be some considerations that should be made while organising your child’s Mundan Ceremony. There is a lot of scientific support for the assertion that shaving the initial hair ensures more excellent development. However, because toddlers are still in the beginning phases of development and the procedure of absorbing essential vitamins and minerals for their health is still gathering up steam, hair growth is often somewhat sporadic in them.
A baby's first hair growth is not particularly robust. Additionally dispersed are the hair follicles. Shaving off the weak hair makes new hair with stronger hair follicles emerge from the roots, and the hair development pattern is no longer disorganised or disorderly. As a result, the baby's hair development is better, thicker, and firmer, too, following Mundan.
