The term “Shubh Mundan Muhurat” refers to an auspicious time for a baby's first hair removal ceremony, determined by astrological calculations based on the positions of planets and stars.
The meaning of Mundan is “tonsure” or “shaving the head”. The Mundan Sanskar or Kesha Kandana is a traditional Hindu ceremony where a baby’s head is shaved for the first time. This ritual, done on auspicious dates, brings good luck to the baby.

The Mundan Ceremony or tonsure function is one of the 16 sacred Sanskaras in Hinduism. It is considered auspicious to perform it during specific, astrologically determined muhurats (auspicious times). It is said to cleanse the child’s past-life karma.
These muhurats are said to enhance the energy of the ritual, offering enhanced well-being and a promising future for the child. The first tonsure for babies is usually performed in odd years, usually when the baby is either 1, 3 or 5 years old.
Observing your baby’s Mundan or first hair tonsuring ceremony offers several benefits.
