Nakshatra 2026 is composed of two words: “Naksha” and “Tara”. “Naksha” means a Map, and “Tara” means a Star, telling the “mapping of the stars”. It is a vedic term used to describe constellations that influence a person’s life.

The entire 360-degree zodiac circle is divided into 27 equal parts. Each Nakshatra spans an arc of 13 degrees and 20 minutes (13°20').

• Manusya Gana: Manusya Gana encompasses the qualities of being human, encompassing both positive and negative aspects. Bharani, Rohini, Ardra, Shravana, and the Purva and Uttara Nakshatras come under this category.
• Rakshasa Gana: Rakshasa Gana includes the quality of a demon. It is being stubborn and aggressive. Krittika, Ashlesha, Magha, Chitra, Vishakha, Jyestha, Mula, Dhanistha, and Shatabhishak Nakshatras come under this category.

3. Guna

Guna means Energy. We have three main gunas to represent the energies of different nakshatras. We have nine stars or zodiac signs in each Guna with their corresponding nakshatra.

• Sattva: Sattva guna brings the energy of manifestation and intelligence.
• Rajas: Rajas guna is the energy of movement, ambition, activity and change.
• Tamas: Tamas Guna brings the energy of being lazy, low on activity and materialistic.

4. Animal

In Vedic astrology, 27 nakshatras characteristics are closely associated with the attributes of animals and birds. An individual's behavioural aspects match those of the bird and animal.

Mythology Related To The Nakshatras

In Hindu Mythology, the 27 nakshatras are the daughters of Daksha. Daksha married his 27 daughters to the Moon God, Chandra.

Chandra promised to love and respect all his 27 wives equally. However, as time passed, he became increasingly attracted to Rohini, the most beautiful and charming of all the sisters.

As time passed, Chandra paid no attention to any of the sisters except Rohini. This angered the sisters, and they all went to Daksha to complain about Chandra’s behaviour.

Daksha was furious at Chandra’s actions and cursed him to lose all his lustre and shine, and just become dull. Chandra, being the God of the Moon and vegetation, began to lose his shine.

This caused numerous problems as vegetation began to die. Seeing this, the Devas grew concerned. They went to pacify Daksha and ask him to lift his curse.

However, being a sage, his curse can’t be revoked. So, after listening to Devas' request, he modified his curse, giving Chandra the period where he loses his shine and then regains it.

These periods are now referred to as the waxing and waning of the Moon. Also, Daksha made sure that this change in Moon’s phase ensures that Chandra would spend equal time with every nakshatra.
