Once upon a time, in a small village, there lived a thief named Gunnidhi, who used to steal clothes, food and money for his livelihood.
Gunnidhi's constant efforts to keep the lamps of the temple lit, impressed lord Shiva and this he blessed him to be known as God of wealth in the next life.
Lord Kubera was the son of Saint Vishrava and Ilavida. Later Vishrava also got married to the Asura princess, Kaikesi.
