Badrinath is a holy town located in the Chamoli District of Uttrakhand. The place has a lot of mysteries and surprising facts that can make one curious to know more. Badrinath is the sacred Abode of Lord Vishnu<\/strong>, who is the present deity of the temple.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It’s one of the Char Dhams of Uttrakhand where devotees crowd each year to seek the blessings of Lord Vishnu. It is a part of the Panch Badri- Yog Dhan Badri, Bhavidya Badri, Adi Badri and Vriddha Badri.<\/strong> The Temple remains open for six months every year from the end of April to the beginning of November due to its extreme weather conditions.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to Skand Purana, Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati once lived in the region of Badrinath. There, they built a house where both of them used to meditate. Spiritual energy filled the entire area. Also, the area was peaceful for meditation practices. Lord Shiva chose this place because all of this added to make the place ideal for meditation practices.<\/span><\/p>\n

1. Lord Vishnu\u2019s Wish for the Sacred Place<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n

Once Narada Muni went to Lord Vishnu and told him that he was a bad example for humanity as he was lying on Adisheesha (King of Snakes)<\/strong> every time and that must find a home for himself on the earth. <\/span>Listening to this criticism from Narada Muni, Vishnu came to the Himalayas and searched for a place where he could meditate. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Lastly, he found Badrinath, which was the best place for his meditation. Fortunately, Lord Vishnu found a house in\u00a0 Badrinath but found that it was Lord Shiva\u2019s house. Lord Narayana then thought of a plan as he was aware of the angry nature of Mahadeva. Below, let\u2019s learn more about the story of the lost home of Mahadeva.<\/span><\/p>\n

2. Vishnu\u2019s Transformation into a Child<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n

He got transformed into a small child and sat in front of the house of Lord Shiva and Parvati when they went out for a walk. When they returned, they saw the baby crying outside their house. Lord Shiva knew that it was not a good baby as there were no footprints of the baby\u2019s parents in the snow. He said to Goddess Parvati that it is not a child.<\/span><\/p>\n

However, the mother inside the Goddess did not let the child to be out in the cold like that. So, Maa Parvati took the child inside carrying him on her lap. The child felt comfortable on Goddess Parvati\u2019s lap and was looking very happily into the eyes of Lord Shiva. Mahadeva got aware of the consequence of this, but said \u2018Let\u2019s see what happens\u2019.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

3. Lord Shiva\u2019s Lost Home: Lord Vishnu\u2019s Trickery<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n

Goddess Parvati breastfed the child, left him at home and went with Lord Shiva to take a bath. After some time, they returned home and were shocked to see that all the doors of the house were locked. Maa Parvati asked Mahadeva,\u2019 Who closed all the doors?\u2019, To this Lord Shiva answered her, \u2018 I told you not to pick up the child, now he closed the doors of the house\u2019.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Mahadeva then told Goddess\u00a0 Parvati about two options, the first one was to burn up everything and the second option was to leave everything and go. To this, Maa Parvati said that it was good to go and find another place to live in as they couldn\u2019t touch the small baby. Interestingly, Lord Shiva was aware of this and knew it was none other than Lord Vishnu\u2019s plan to stay in this place.<\/span><\/p>\n

4. Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati\u2019s Journey to Kedarnath<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n

Lord Shiva and Maa Parvati left Badrinath and they travelled through the Himalayas to find a peaceful place where they could mediate. They found Kedarnath<\/strong>, after searching for a longer period. The Mountains, rivers and deep forests made the place ideal for meditation practice.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Also, ancient scriptures tell about a form of Lord Shiva called Ardhanarishwara ( half-male and half-female)<\/strong> in the region. Lord Shiva started a cosmic dance in the form and filled the place with divine energy. Seeing this beauty, both, Lord Shiva and Maa Parvati decided to settle in the sacred place.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

5. Shiva\u2019s Transformation as Jyotirlinga in Kedarnath<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n

After moving to Kedarnath, Shiva took the form of Jyotirlinga (divine pillar of light)<\/strong> in the place. Kedarnath then became one of the twelve Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva. Also, Maa Parvati meditated at Gauri Kund<\/strong> in this place, where she performed penance. This place got its name after her, which symbolizes her divine presence.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Seeing this dedication and devotion of Lord Vishnu, Lord Shiva blessed him and the sacred place.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Some Ancient scriptures also state that Lord Shiva accompanied Lord Vishnu to Badrinath. Once Mahadeva came to Badrinath to participate in Lord Vishnu\u2019s meditation and penance.
