Draupadi, the wife of the Pandavas, is the main female protagonist in the Mahabharata. Who is Draupadi?\u00a0<\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n

Draupadi, also known as Panchali or Yagnaseni, is not an ordinary woman who played a significant role in the ancient Indian Epic Mahabharat. Without Draupadi, the Mahabharat would be incomplete, and the war would not have occurred. <\/span><\/p>\n

Moreover, she was the daughter of Draupada, the king of the Southern part of the Panchala Kingdom. She was admired for her beauty, and as she had dusky skin toned, she was also called Krishna.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Birth of Draupadi is a long story that describes how Draupada and Drona\u2019s enmity leads to Draupada organising a Yagna that blesses him with a child. So, to understand the Draupadi birth in detail, you need to read the entire scenario.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The War between Dronacharya and Draupada\u00a0<\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n

The story starts with the friendship of Dronacharya and Draupada, who later turn into enemies after Draupada backs off from his words. So, when both of them were friends, Draupada had promised Drona to give him half of his kingdom, and while Drona went to his palace to ask for it, Draupada refused to do so.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Drona feels betrayed and plans to wage war against Draupada with the help of the Kauravas and Pandavas. As Drona is the Guru of both Pandavas and Kauravas, they are united to fight against Draupada. Moreover, Drona and Drupada clash on the battlefield when war breaks out, and Drona eventually emerges victorious.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Draupada Conducts a Yagna\u00a0<\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n

After the battle between Drona and Draupada, Drona’s army appeared to be a defeater. Drona did not want to kill Draupada; instead, he wanted to take revenge for his betrayal. Eventually, Drona captured half of Draupada\u2019s kingdom and released him, giving him half of it, considering their past friendship.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Moreover, Draupada was furious and humiliated, and he wanted to wage war and kill Drona. Later, King Draupada dreamed of having a child who would take revenge for his humiliation. Therefore, King Draupada consulted with the sages Upayaja and Yaja, who performed the sacrificial yagna to help him get a son who could kill his enemy, Drona.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Birth of Draupadi and Dhrishtadyumna from Yagna\u00a0<\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n

The Yagna gets over, and the sages distribute the Prasad to everyone. While they offered it to Draupadi\u2019s mother, Prishati, she had something in her mouth. So she asked the sages to wait for a while. This annoyed the Yaja, and he threw the prasd in the Agni, and out of it came Dhrishtadyumna, the man with garlands in his neck and sword in his hand.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Moreover, Upayaga also threw the prasad into the Agni and then emerged a woman with exquisite beauty from the Agni. This is how the birth of Draupadi took place, and she did not take birth from her mother\u2019s womb. This surprised everyone present during the Yagna. Their supernatural birth portrays the yagna’s power, which brought them into the world, ready to fulfil their purposes for their father. Therefore, King Draupada named them Draupadi and Dhrishtadyumna.<\/span><\/p>\n
