These directions form Vastu principles used in constructing houses and buildings. Moreover, the symbolic diagram of these principles is known as the Vastu Purush Mandala, which we will cover later. Origin of Vastu Purush<\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n

According to the ancient text Matsyapurana, once a war occurred between the Asuras (Demons) and Devtas (Gods). <\/span>Lord Shiva fought on behalf of Devtas, and Andhakasur fought for the Asuras. During this, a few drops of Lord Shiva’s sweat fell on the ground, from which a giant male creature emerged. The giant creature, who was later called Lord Vastu Purush, was so huge that it almost covered the entire Earth.<\/span><\/p>\n

Fearing Earth’s destruction, the Gods and the Asuras ran to Lord Brahma. Brahma, along with 44 other Gods, pinned him flat on the ground to save Mother Earth. On being thrown down to Earth, his different body parts covered different directions of the Earth. When the creature came back to his senses, he stated to Lord Brahma that it wasn’t his fault for being born so huge. Guilty Brahma appointed him the Lord of Constructions, naming him Vastu Purush. Since then, the directions associated with his body parts became a part of the Vastu Purush Mandala.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Structure of Vastu Purush Mandala\u00a0<\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n

The Vastu Purush Mandal is a chart based on the life of Lord Vastu Purush. It is available in both a square and a 360-degree chart format. The diagram is divided into 9* 9 = 81 parts or squares. Brahma, known as Brahmasthan, is in the central part, and 44 other deities are in different parts. Among 45 deities, 32 gods are in the outer part and 13 in the internal part of the chart.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Vastu Purusha Mandala has 8*8=64 squares, and people call it the Manduka\/Chandita Mandala. However, they call the 9*9=81 part the Paramasaayika Mandala. These two 9*9 and 8*8 grids are mainly popular among vastu practitioners. Vastu professionals used the Paramasaayika Mandala to design homes and offices and the Manduka Mandala to design temples.<\/span><\/p>\n
