Story of Vrinda and Lord Vishnu<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

We all have heard of Tulsi Vivah. In Hinduism, the plant of Tulsi is considered to be highly auspicious. This plant is said to have medicinal benefits and is also known to be the wife of the Lord Krishna. Every year on the occasion of Tulsi Vivah, the Tulsi plant is worshipped. It is accepted that on this day, Lord Vishnu married Goddess Tulsi in the form of Shaligram or her Sri Krishna avatar on Prabodhini Ekadashi. According to Hindu scriptures, Tulsi Mata is considered the symbol of Goddess Lakshmi, the wife of Lord Vishnu. She took birth as Vrinda.<\/span><\/p>\n

Vrinda was the wife of an asura Jalandhar. Jalandhar was known to be a mighty asura. However, his source of power was not from within himself but from the devotion and chastity of his wife, Vrinda. Lord Krishna wanted to defeat Jalandhar. In order to do so, he took the form of Jalandhar and met Vrinda. Because of this, Vrinda’s vow of chastity broke, resulting in Jalandhar losing his powers. <\/span><\/p>\n

Lord Vishnu then easily defeated Jalandhar. However, upon knowing this, Vrinda was heartbroken. She was very upset and angered by the actions of Lord Vishnu and cursed him to turn into stone. However, it was believed that this curse could only be lifted if Lord Vishnu married Tulsi. Tulsi was said to be an incarnation of Vrinda itself. Thus, Lord Vishnu married Tulsi.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Importance of Tulsi Vivah<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

In the Hindu calendar, Tulsi Vivah is celebrated during the Shukla Paksha of Kartik month on Ekadashi, the date of Mata Tulsi and Lord Vishnu’s union in the form of Shaligram. Hence according to the faithful and faithful devotees, fasting on this day with dedication and rituals destroys all the sins committed by the devotee in this birth and the previous life and attains the truth.<\/span><\/p>\n

All over India, married women perform the Tulsi Vivah Puja for the prosperity of their husbands and relatives.
